In light of the forthcoming Rose Review, should the Primary curriculum still contain individual subjects, or should there be wider use of linked subjects and themes?

I absolutley agree, Maria. It is an impossible task to fit everything into the modern curriculum and there are increasing demands put upon us with additional factors to include. Linking has to be the way forward - but in a disciplined and rigorous way.
It seems to me that many teachers are just expected to get on and do this for themselves. I think that there is scope for further advice and support on how to do it best. Otherwise, we rely on gut instinct and are often working by trial and error for what just 'feels' right.

The idea of using linked learning of NC subjects is extremely important in an ever decreasing timeframe for the teaching of non-core subjects within the primary and secondary curriculum.
However, we must be very careful to ensure that we do not make spurious links between subjects. The links must be specific and meaningful and we must ensure that we do not lose sight of the history skills, knowledge and understaning we are trying to develop within our classrooms.
