Mary Rose Charity1 Response | Last response: 30th September 2011, 10:39 am by Tim Ridgway
The Anne Boleyn Files (www.theanneboleynfiles.com) have been supporting the new Mary Rose museum in Portsmouth for a number of years. This year, we have created a stunning calendar which features photos from our competition winners, all of places in the UK with associations to the Tudors. The calendar would be a wonderful addition to any classroom or history lover's house, as it is a real talking point. Instead of the usual events written in the days, we have chosen to put key events from Tudor times, such as births and deaths of the Tudor Monarchs. The calendar is immediately available from our website: http://www.theanneboleynfiles.com/products-page/stationery/tudor-places-calendar/ £1 from each purchase is going to support the Mary Rose too, so everyone wins!

Blanche Parry & Queen Elizabeth ISee: www.blancheparry.com - menu: NEW CALENDAR Blanche Parry & Queen Elizabeth I This calendar commemorates the Diamond Jubilee of H.M. Queen Elizabeth II, 2012. Through the generosity of the Queen it includes the gorgeous portrait of Princess Elizabeth, c.1546, in her red and gold dress. The Marquess of Salisbury generously allowed the Rainbow portrait of Queen Elizabeth I, the portrait of Lord Burghley (Blanche's cousin) and a photograph of Hatfield Old Palace to be used. The other pictures show: Blanche Parry's St. Margaret's Church (Westminster) tomb, her Bacton monument, Queen Elizabeth I's Presence Chamber, the frontispiece of the 1588 Welsh Bible, Llangorse Lake + 1584 map, the site of Newcourt + drawing of the house, Bacton Church and Dore Abbey. We are most grateful to all the picture owners. Each picture has a detailed explanatory paragraph describing the picture's relevance. The front and back covers of the calendar, plus details of all the pictures, can be seen on www.blancheparry.com All proceeds from this calendar will benefit Bacton Church where Blanche worshipped as a girl and where her family are buried. It is a strictly limited edition, with superb pictures, and cannot be repeated. The calendar costs £10 by hand (£15 by post UK), cheques payable to BACTON CHURCH. Contact Mrs R.E. Richardson, 'The Gables', Riverdale, Abbey Dore, Herefordshire, HR2 0AJ (UK). This calendar really is recommended. Thank you.
The History of Parliament surveyThe History of Parliament is a major academic project to create a scholarly reference work describing the members, constituencies and activities of the Parliament of England and the United Kingdom. The volumes either published or in preparation cover the House of Commons from 1386 to 1868 and the House of Lords from 1603 to 1832. They are widely regarded as an unparalleled source for British political, social and local history. We are currently reviewing our work and are keen to incorporate views and contributions from anyone interested in the History, and more broadly in the history of Parliament and national and local politics and society in Britain and Ireland. We have drawn up an online survey, which is available here until the end of March 2011. The survey is not too long (depending on how much you decide to write in the comment boxes), and your responses will be very welcome. It can be found at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/histparlreview If you would prefer to tell us what you think of the History by post or email, you are welcome to do so. Post to History of Parliament Review, 18 Bloomsbury Square, London WC1A 2NS; email to pseaward@histparl.ac.uk.
Need some help from a history buff.1 Response | Last response: 23rd January 2012, 2:59 pm by Steve Sidders
I am writing to you from Cairns Australia and I am in need of help from a kind amateur historian. I have recently completed a fictional novel and one of the chapters is set in rural England during the 1800s. I have done some research on the era but I am sure I will have still made mistakes. If there is anyone who has a few minutes spare who could read my chapter and give me their opinion I would be most grateful. I look forward to any responses. Yours Marnie
GenocideI am an Ambassador for the Holocaust Educational Trust and I recently visited Auschwitz to gather a greater understanding of it. I wanted to create a forum targeted on genocide as a whole. I understand that the Holocaust was an inhumane event aimed to exterminate 'inferior' races or minorities. But why? What drove the nazis to create this proccess of extermination? Why the Jews? Why gas them? Why use them as labour? It would be great to see posts on topics such as these and perhaps look at mass murder as a core topic. It would be wonderful to see us all discussing other genocides and what led to them? and what can we do to stop them?
Active History teaching and learning1 Response | Last response: 13th September 2010, 9:20 pm by ludwik Kowalski
I am doing an MA research and investigation piece as part of my PGCE based on Active teaching and learning. I am a real advocate for active lessons, and enjoy them, but I am just wondering what you all think? have you tried it, hated it? loved it? what worked? I am also doing a literary review on the topic, so if anyone has any ideas of some books, journals etc... to send me in the right direction for reading, id appreciate it! Thank you. Anton
Computer program and English monarchsThis may be closer to trivia than history but maybe it could be useful. It's a PC program that picks an English monarch, asks you for the dates of his/her reign. It then gives you the answer with a few facts about the monarch or events during their reign. You can specify various date ranges. The program asks whether you knew the answer and tailors its question selection to pick the ones you don't know, so as to give you more practice with them. The program covers some other topics as well. It's all free, at www.whatbots.com As I wrote the program, I can give it to you and there are no copyright problems. Regards, Brian
Teachers TV - From Good to OutstandingHello, I wasn't sure whether to post in the Primary or Secondary forum, so I've gone for general rather than both. I’m working on behalf of Teachers TV to ask for teachers to give their advice and opinions to fellow teachers who are taking part in a new series of From Good to Outstanding. I thought the teachers on this site would find this relevant, so I hope this is OK to post here. The series started on 9th June 2009 and we would really like more teachers to get involved and let us know what they think. Here’s a bit more about the programmes: Taking a teacher who was rated ‘good’ by their school, viewers will have the opportunity to give their advice about how they could deliver an ‘outstanding’ lesson. After also receiving advice from specialist coaches, we find out what impact the experience has had on each teacher taking part. Read more about secondary teacher Hana and early years teacher Rachel in the discussion group as they are interviewed by Teachers TV. Hana and Rachel welcome your advice after their first lesson which is now live, so do get involved. Thanks in advance for your contributions. Beth Granter On behalf of Teachers TV
The relevance of teaching history key stage 2 and 3I'm a student who is writing a project on 'The relevance of teaching history key stage 2 and 3'. I'm finding it hard to locate arguments surrounding this topic, so I'd be very grateful for any help in the right direction.
