Professor Jackie Eales, President 2011 - 2014

Published: 23rd May 2011

We are delighted to announce that Professor Jackie Eales was confirmed as President to succeed Professor Anne Curry at the AGM on 13 May 2011.

Jackie is Professor of Early Modern History at Canterbury Christ Church University. Her research interests have focussed on Puritanism and the Parliamentarian Party and she has also published widely on Kent during the Civil War. She is currently researching clerical wives and daughters in the Seventeenth Century.

Jackie has been an active member of the Canterbury Branch for many years and Co-Convenor of History UK.

At the same time as welcoming Jackie we are sad to say goodbye and thank you to Anne Curry. As well as being a wonderfully supportive, thoughtful and innovative person to work with, Anne has set the bar high for any future Presidents. Anne declared her aim to visit every branch and during her Presidency has managed to get to 36 branches with another 12 or so visited just prior to her election. An average of 12 branches each year is no mean feat and a daunting challenge to anyone else!

We were very pleased to welcome Ben Walsh as Deputy President from 2011 to 2013 and bid a fond and heartfelt farewell to Heather Scott.
