The Historical Association is again proud to support the work of Archives and Archivists by presenting its award for Best Dissertation 2012. The winner is Ronan Deazley: 'The Yeti in the Archive: Copyright, Risk and Reform,' from the University of Glasgow.

The judges said ' This is a hot topic that is given comprehensive treatment: it is well structured, well-written, technical and legalistic but accessible and clear; it is a fantastic piece of work at this level and a clear winner. Ronan wins £150.

Runner up is Anna-Maria Hajba: 'The research value of the journals of Caroline Countess of Dunraven and how to optimise their use.' Anna-Maria is from the University of Aberystwyth, and she wins £75. The judges 'praised the very thorough way in which you approached this topic, your discussion of what is entailed in a diary, carefully teasing out of matters historical from those literary, and the sensible, practical recommendations that emerge from the study; it is a meticulous piece of work.'

Awards will be presented at the Medlicott Evening, June 18th by TV presenter and family history expert Nick Barratt.
