'Who do we think we are?' is looking for a new project officer.

Do you have the skills and experience to help schools, teachers and young people answer the question: Who do we think we are?

This innovative and exciting programme will engage primary & secondary school teachers in the exploration of identity, diversity & citizenship with their pupils, in their schools, local communities & nationally. 

Led jointly by the Association for Citizenship Teaching, Citizenship Foundation, Historical Association & Royal Geographical Society (with IBG), and funded by DCSF, it is a high profile and fast paced programme.  It supports year around engagement, with a week focus in June 2009.

You will be working to support:

  • a lively website full of practical ideas, new resources, guidance and support.
  • the work of subject experts and subject bodies who will contribute to the WDWTWA programme
  • the promotion of the programme, including work with partner educational bodies, community and faith organisations, the heritage sector and other stakeholders
  • the engagement of schools, teachers and pupils with the programme
  • the effective administration of the project, its activities, liaison across project board and providing regular activity reports to the project board and DCSF

Salary c£23,000 pa.  This post is currently offered on a 12 month fixed term contract (subject to a successful probationary period).  Subject your successful delivery of the programme and possible future funding for an additional year of WDWTWA in 2010, there may be the opportunity to extend this contract for a further 7 months fixed term period.

The ideal candidate will need proven experience of, or the ability to achieve:

  • the administration of successful programmes with teachers, particularly involving online delivery
  • editorial updates to http://www.wdwtwa.org.uk/
  • the effective liaison with commissioned writer, web developers and subject experts to agreed outcomes and time and budget
  • the support of successful partnerships with key stakeholders including the School Linking Network, Black and minority ethnic community groups, faith communities and the heritage education sector etc
  • the use of research and communication skills to good effect
  • work with databases and editorial updates of a website
  • effective administration of mailing and dissemination activities
  • supporting the delivery of the evaluation of the programme
  • a clear focus to deliver agreed activities
  • a degree level qualification, ideally in a degree relevant to the WDWTWA programme, is desirable but not essential
  • any other reasonable activities required for the successful delivery of the programme.

This role requires a balance of high level administration and organisational skills alongside an understanding of, and commitment to, the importance of the exploration of identity, diversity & citizenship in an educational context.

This post will be based at the RGS-IBG, London. The post will work to the direction of the joint WDWTWA project board and report on a day-to-day basis to Steve Brace, Head of Education RGS-IBG.
