Why Not Gift Aid Your Historical Association Subscription?
I am pleased to tell you that the Historical Association can now claim Gift Aid on subscriptions that you have paid to us since October 2003. (This does not include payments for additional journals.) Gift Aid is very important to us as a small charity, as it means that we can reclaim 28p of tax for every £1 you have paid in subscription fees since 2003. This extra income will enable us to do better work in our mission to promote and support the study of history at all levels, and it won't cost you a penny!
A small favour from you could have a big impact on us. All you have to do is fill in the enclosed Gift Aid forms.
The Two Forms Explained
The Gift Aid Declaration Form. This is our standard form. We would ask you to complete it even if you have previously given us a Gift Aid declaration. This is partly to confirm that you have paid tax on income and capital gains at least equal to the amount we can reclaim and partly to simplify what in this first year is going to be a considerable administrative exercise for us.
The Gift Aid Eligibility Form. This form is required from us by Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs to confirm that you have not claimed income tax relief on the cost of your subscription. The form goes back six years. Please tick the appropriate box for each year.
Some members can claim income tax relief on the cost of their HA subscription as a professional expense. If you did claim tax relief for a particular year, your subscription cannot be Gift Aided. But if you didn't claim, we can claim Gift Aid on it.
We would be very grateful for your Gift Aid declarations, as these will allow us to increase the value of your subscription to the HA at no extra cost to you. If you have any queries please telephone John Andrews on 020 7820 5987 or email john.andrews@history.org.uk
Yours sincerely
