As we await the announcement of what the future holds for history within the new primary curriculum, the next generation of teachers based at Leeds Trinity University College are keen to have a voice: they want to represent their views about the current situation and suggest some changes. These students are all on a pathway training to teach the 7-11 age group and have spent a minimum of 24 hours studying history.
To gather the information the students selected two approaches: first, they held small group discussions; second, they designed a questionnaire to survey the views of the whole cohort. The course tutor utilised the proposed questions and combined these with some of those used within the HA Primary History survey to produce the final questionnaire. This was completed by 52 students.
