The War of American Independence

Classic Pamphlet

By Esmond Wright, published 13th January 2010

Causes and Significance

In the two-hundredth year of American Independence, it is proper to ask: why did it occur? It need not have happened; it was the act of men, not immutable forces. But once the tensions became acute, the three thousand miles of ocean were a difficult chasm to bridge. The War was one of the first of guerrilla wars in modern history, and has much interest for the student of military tactics. It presents political and ideological problems too - for Patriots and Loyalists alike the issues were of treason, duty and patriotism, issues as real and as divisive as in the Age of Vietnam.

This pamphlet looks at the signficance of the war, the causes of the war and the war itself...
