Exploring Cheshire Tour 2009

Exploring the varied and interesting history of this rather overlooked and still mainly rural county visits will be made, among others, to the remains of the Roman Legionary Fortress, the mediaeval Rows and city walls and red sandstone cathedral at Chester. The Salt Museum, Lion Salt Works and Anderton Boat Lift at Northwich, the Quarry Bank Cotton Mill at Styal, the Silk museum at Macclesfield and The Hat Museum and Second World War Air-Raid shelter at Stockport. Of the many country houses there wil be visits to Tatton Park, Dunham Massey, Lyme Park and Little Moreton Hall. Jodrell Bank and the 'Top Secret' Nuclear Bunker at Hack Green will also be included, as well as the home of the cat who inspired Lewis Carroll's smiling Cheshire Cat.
