25 February "The Devils are walking about our streets": the witchcraft delusion in seventeenth - century Salem.
Prof. Richard Francis, Bath Spa University.
Prof Richard Francis read English at Cambridge and then did a PhD at Exeter University in the field of nineteenth century American intellectual history.
He spent a year at Harvard as an American Council of Learned Societies Fellow and then for many years he lectured on American Literature at Manchester University. He was an exchange professor at the University of Missouri at Columbia in the late 1980s and on his return to Manchester I began to teach Creative Writing as well as American literature.
In 1993 he set up the MA in Novel Writing with my colleague Michael Schmidt. He came to Bath Spa in 1999 and am Professor of Creative Writing there.
