This event is CPD certified

The Department for Education is currently undertaking a comprehensive Review of the National Curriculum, with a new curriculum due to be implemented in schools from September 2014. This seminar is part of the series of seminars that the Westminster Education Forum is organising during Spring 2012 - one for each of the core subjects, identified by Government as English, Maths, Science and Physical Education, and this event, discussing the role that other subjects should play in the National Curriculum. For more information and how to register to attend the other events, please visit their website here.

Seminar

This timely seminar will bring together a senior grouping of stakeholders along with key policymakers to discuss the future shape of foreign languages, technology, arts, humanities and other ‘non-core' subjects - as well as wider issues concerning the teaching of these subjects in schools - as Government continues its National Curriculum Review seeking a "radically different and more rigorous approach".

Topics for discussion include:

  • The role that subjects other than Maths, Science, English and PE should play in the new National Curriculum;
  • How the National Curriculum can be shaped to support schools in delivering a rounded series of educational opportunities for all children; and
  • The practical challenges of implementing the National Curriculum - timetabling, funding and the role for outside organisations and school trips in delivering elements of the National Curriculum.

The draft agenda available to view online here. The seminar is organised on the basis of strict impartiality by the Westminster Education Forum.
