World Wide Debate on US Foreign Policy

Stories from the United Nations used to kickstart a world-wide debate on US foreign policy. Sergio Vieira de Mello was murdered in Iraq while working for the United Nations in Aug, 2003. He had dedicated 34 years of his life working on refugee protection, peace-keeping and what has become known as nation building. In the months ahead Cause & Affect will be using the momentum generated by these products - a book by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Samantha Power, a compelling feature length documentary, and a major motion picture - to embark on a new campaign designed to educate Americans on Sergio's life and lessons... and to use his story to ignite a dynamic constituency that can help navigate the complexity of foreign policy for the United States.

Please join the conversation at facing history, where Power joins an eclectic group of scholars, educators, activists, humanitarians, students and citizens from around the world to reflect on Sergio's life and legacy, provoke debate, and discuss how this movement can have the greatest impact possible. This website can be used as a dynamic tool for classroom conversation.
