Description: The early crusaders created small states on European lines in lands conquered around Jerusalem. Crusaders struggled to maintain these new political arrangements, and lands were won from them. Today we are unsure how to view these settlers. Did they fail because they were too western: or because they had not learn how to try to attempt to live like the inhabitants of Palestine?
