Description: After a BA in European Studies at UEA and a Cambridge PGCE, Edward Towne taught history in secondary schools in Bristol and Rochester, and completed a part‐time MA in Early Modern English History at Birkbeck College, University of London. He took an MSt in Twentieth Century British History at Oxford University in 2001 (Beit Prize Winner), and taught in schools until 2011. Since then he has lectured to adults in a wide range of institutions including: U3A, WEA, Marlborough Summer School, the English‐Speaking Union, Probus, Rotary Clubs, and the Tonbridge Extra‐Mural Department of the University of Kent. He has also given numerous talks to HA branches and accompanied seven historically‐themed trips to France on behalf of the Historical Association.
