Using sources

Using actual primary sources with your pupils is a powerful way of helping them to understand how we know and make speculations about what happened in the past, and why this knowledge changes as we find more evidence, or evidence that demonstrates a different interpretation might be possible. We also need to be careful not to make generalisations from limited evidence – your pupils should be using tentative language (modal verbs) when they talk about what they might be interpreting from the objects.
