‘A most regrettable occurrence’

Keynote Speech: ‘A most regrettable occurrence’: the First World War campaigns in eastern Africa
Edward Paice, Director, Africa Research Institute

In this filmed lecture Edward Paice explores the devastating and tragic consequences of Britain and Germany’s actions in East Africa during the First World War. Two weeks after the armistice was signed in Europe, troops continued to fight in Africa after four years of a campaign described as ‘a war of extermination and attrition without parallel in modern times’.

This film was recorded at the HA Annual Conference 2016 which took place at the Majestic Hotel in Harrogate.
