Departmental Health Check

Toolkit

Authors: Melanie Jones, Flora Wilson & Simon Harrison. Web Editor: Simon Brown, 21st June 2011

If you are a new teacher or head of department, sometimes making sense of Ofsted criteria and relating it to your own departmental practice can be a daunting prospect. It can be difficult to see the difference between one grade and another and where you can improve. We at the Historical Association thought it might be useful to therefore put Ofsted guidance and what this might look like in your school together in an easy to use accessible way. This is a working document and we want you as our members to add to it. This document will become a great resource for all of you with your examples. If you have examples of outstanding, good or satisfactory graded work that fits the suggested exemplar material, please send it to us and we will add it to the document or link out to your website where your examples are held. All work submitted will be fully credited to schools and authors. We look forward to receiving your great examples and to building up a fantastic and valuable resource for every history department to use. If you have materials that you would like to add or share on this document, please contact Mel Jones on melaniej@history.org.uk
