An amazing 370 of you entered our fantastic History in the Headlines competition in partnership with The Guardian. We were really pleased to see entries from right throughout the age spectrum, from age 7 to 17 and well done to everyone who entered.  The standard of the entries was very high, which made choosing winners even more difficult, but eventually we managed to whittle it down to our chosen winners in each category. The entries were judged both by The Guardian and The Historical Association for their historical accuracy and skill, as well as journalistic style.

The winners in each category are listed below:

Primary: Jessica Rutter - Howells School, Cardiff. Article on Matthew Webb swimming the channel in 1875.

Key Stage3: -  Ashani Lewis Tiffin Girls School, Surrey.  Article on Jesse Owens and the 1936 Berlin Olympics.

Key Stage 4: Alexandra Holker Latymer Upper School, Hammersmith.  Article on the death of Queen Caroline, 1821

Also  special recognition, for Sarah Purkis, St. Robert of Newminster School, Tyne and Wear. Article on Napalm, Nixon and the Vietnam War.

Key Stage 5: Francesca Moll, Wimbledon High School. Article on charge of the Light Brigade 1854.

Well done to those 5 who will all have goodies on the way to them. We will add a digital version of their entries to this news story as soon as possible, so that you can read and enjoy them as much as we did!

Our overall winner was Alexandra Holker, who will be given the extra opportunity to spend an all expenses paid day at the Guardian Offices. We look forward to seeing how she gets on!
