The Elizabeth cake

Primary History article

By Sandra Kirkland, published 11th November 2019

Hidden away on top of a dusty, battered cupboard in a local primary school were two equally dusty and battered log books. Each has seen better days and each could provide a range of links to local and national history. The log book was one of two found in one of the ‘bedrooms’ in the school house of a Victorian school which was established in 1843. Among the daily details is an entry written in neat copperplate writing. The date is 22 April 1929 and the piece contains two signatures: Albert and Elizabeth.
