The beginning of the 1990s, just as this publication was created, saw a period of realignment across Europe. The dissolution of Soviet-controlled USSR led to seismic change both for the eastern bloc countries and those within the western NATO alliance. The prospect of nuclear war retreated. A feeling of optimism for a new world order grew. Considering the changes that were wrought at this time allows children to consider how this was brought about through civil resistance and populist action.
