Children's ideas about school history and why they matter

Article

By Richard Harris & Terry Haydn, published 5th December 2008

Richard Harris and Terry Haydn recently carried out research funded by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority into pupils' views and beliefs about history. Whilst the overall results were very encouraging (and more so than earlier, similar surveys), the responses of the minority who do not enjoy the subject give valuable insights into what may still be going wrong for some pupils. Harris and Haydn offer their own interpretation of the results and make suggestions for what should perhaps be prioritised when setting about re-engaging certain pupils.
