The John Davey Research Grant for Medieval Studies’ Award

The Richard III Foundation Inc. is offering a research award to assist with the costs of research. Applications will be accepted from graduate students and independent scholars who are seeking financial aid in completing their research work. (Students who are in receipt of awards from the AHRC and the Medieval Academy of America will not be eligible.)

Applicants must be studying an aspect of English history during the period c1450-1485 as it is directly related to Richard III, his life and times.  The research work must be in progress, and not completed or previously published. 

The awards are intended to help with the funding of discrete, short-term projects that are consistent with more general research aims. These awards are not intended to provide assistance with general living expenses

Successful applicants will be expected to write a short report (500 words) upon the completion of the stated project. The report should explain what has been gained as a result of the project, and should be written in such a way as to be understandable by a non-specialist.  The report and a subsequent article will be published in the Richard III Foundation's, Inc.'s publication, the Medelai Gazette.  The report must be submitted within three months of receiving the award.

Applicants must submit a completed application form, description of the proposed project (500 words), a one page CV, and three references in sealed envelopes. Where appropriate, one reference should be from the applicant's supervisor.  Email references will not be accepted.

Applicants who apply for and become recipients of The Richard III Scholarship for Medieval Studies are not eligible for this award. However, applicants who have applied for scholarship and are not awarded may apply for research assistance.
