Final Programmes of Study: National Curriculum

Published: 10th September 2013

The Historical Association welcomes the changes to the History National Curriculum and is pleased to see that the Government listened to the thoughtful and informed opinions of history teachers and historians that underpinned our response to the consultation. We would like to thank everyone who responded to the consultation and who answered our survey. The weight of evidence we were able to collate made a real difference.

We are particularly pleased to see world history reintroduced to the curriculum alongside the opportunity to study local history at all key stages. The revised curriculum removes much of the prescription giving greater scope for choice and respect for teachers' expertise. Overall this revision presents a curriculum that will help the aims
become a more realistically achievable goal.

The Department for Education has now published the final programmes of study for each subject to be taught from September 2014. You can access them here.
