Editorial opportunity with ‘History’, the journal of the Historical Association

Published: 23rd February 2024

The Historical Association are seeking to appoint a new editorial team for our internationally acclaimed journal History. The journal has had an excellent relationship with the School of History at the University of East Anglia for the past fourteen years and now the time has come for the journal to go out to tender.

We are looking for individuals with the vision to develop the journal and who are happy to embrace the broad geographical, chronological, and disciplinary coverage of History. We are happy to consider a role-share either within one institution or across several institutions. It is recommended that the journal co-editors cover different historical periods, to ensure the greatest coverage of editorial expertise.

About the journal

First published in 1912, History has been a leader in its field ever since. It is unique in its range and variety, packing its pages with stimulating articles and book reviews. History balances its broad chronological coverage with a wide geographical spread of articles featuring contributions from social, political, cultural, economic, and ecclesiastical historians.

History journal is currently published and co-owned by Wiley. It is not a membership journal of the Historical Association, rather it is an international journal which is sold to more than 6,000 research libraries worldwide. We are keen to ensure this international reputation continues to flourish. In line with Wiley’s philanthropic initiatives, extended low-cost or free access to current content is delivered to 4,304 developing world institutions. The journal is currently hybrid and can publish Open Access via green and gold routes.

Traditionally, the journal has had an extensive book reviews section. We would be interested in hearing about possible alternative approaches for reviews, as we would like to redefine and reinvigorate this section. ‘State of the Field’ articles do extremely well in History, and we would welcome ideas about how to build on this format for future issues.

Wiley provides full end-to-end production services including journal management using the online peer review system ScholarOne, together with copyediting and typesetting. Peer review is managed by the journal editorial office.
