Curriculum Mapping at Key Stage 2

Curriculum Map

By Melanie Jones, published 24th September 2013

The revised National Curriculum for history published on July 8th 2013 contains new content and possibly greater coverage that may find schools needing to map out what they cover and when more closely.

The following list defines the topics that must be taught. Following this are some suggestions as to how this content might be mapped in a way that allows children to make comparisons and connections across both time and space. At the Historical Association we appreciate that primary schools operate in a variety of different contexts and circumstances. If these suggested models do not work for your setting, tell us what kind of setting you are and how you are proposing to map the content of the new curriculum to make it work for you so that we can share this with others. Please contact Melanie Jones on melaniej@history.org.uk with your curriculum mapping ideas.
