Practical approaches to cause and consequence (FREE for HA members)
This session will explore introducing cause and consequence to students in both explicit and implicit ways. The session will show specific events and unit ideas which will help children grasp the concepts and show teachers how to introduce ideas of long and short term.

Practical approaches to change and continuity
This session will show practical ways to introduce change and continuity to children, starting from the basics of change between a time in the past and today; to change and continuity within and across time periods. The session will give practical examples of how to frame a unit around change and continuity and how to demonstrate it within individual lessons.

Practical approaches to similarity and difference
This session will give teachers tips on how to explore similarity and difference in a meaningful way in the primary classroom. It will look at introducing the concept in Key Stage 1 to more developed use of it in Key Stage 2, for example similarity and difference in the earliest civilisations. The session will show how to demonstrate that similarity and difference can be nuanced and will support with getting children to move beyond basic ideas

Practical approaches to significance
This session will show teachers how to introduce the concept of significance to children using both individuals and events. It will give ideas of units around individuals and events and how to move beyond significance being “important”, for example significant at the time and significant today. The session will explore how significance can be used in a local study rather than focusing on a well-known event or individual.

Practical approaches to scholarship and interpretation in the primary classroom
This session will show teachers how to introduce both interpretations and scholarship in the primary classroom so that children gain an understanding of the work of historians. The session will show teachers how to move beyond basic interpretations, creating interpretations in accessible ways to use the work of historians.

The course is for history subject leaders and anyone who teaches at Key Stage 1 or 2.

This webinar series will enable you to:

• • Understand how best to implement each concept into lessons and enquiries
• • See real life examples of this in practice

The webinars will be led by Emmy Quinn, Head of History at a middle school in Northumberland. She has been leading in Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 History for 6 years having previously taught history in an all-through school.
