Session 2: Working effectively with SENDCos and specialist colleagues

Collaboration between subject teams and SEND departments has potential to transform the experience of pupils with SEN. This session focuses on building purposeful, sustainable partnerships.

The session will explore:

  • Understanding the SENDCo role and pressures in the current system
  • Translating EHCP outcomes into meaningful goals in the history classroom - both in terms of progress and self-regulation
  • Using Individual Support Plans to effectively deliver targeted support for pupils in History
  • Productive conversations about adaptation, challenge and expectations
  • Working effectively with Teaching Assistants inside and outside the classroom
  • Sustaining an inclusive classroom and positive behaviour when teaching controversial histories

Participants will develop a framework for structured collaboration within their own school context.
