Webinar series: Making substantive and disciplinary knowledge work together in the secondary history curriculum

HA on-demand webinar series for secondary history teachers

Knit one, purl one – Constructing the complete garment

The last few years have, rightly, seen a lot of discussion about 'what' we include in the history curriculum. This has meant that many schools now teach a wider-ranging and more inclusive form of history. As this work has an impact, it is important to continue to think about how this knowledge works with disciplinary knowledge. This series of webinars with Katie Hall will look at ways of assessing disciplinary knowledge so that it is working alongside, and pushing forwards, substantive knowledge. Each webinar concentrates on one of four disciplinary concepts.

This series is suitable for teachers who are interested in beginning to make curricular decisions such as new or aspiring Heads of Department or any other history teachers who are interested in improving their understanding of disciplinary concepts. The webinars will focus on Key Stage 3, with a consideration of what this means for study in Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5.

In this series you will:

  • Develop your understanding of how disciplinary and substantive knowledge work together
  • Learn how history teachers have theorised about different disciplinary concepts
  • Consider how to make imaginative and engaging decisions about assessment
