Flames over Hertfordshire: early eventful flights
Event Type: Local / Community
Takes Place: 19th September 2025
Time: 19.00
Venue: The Tudor Room, Apsley Mill Cottage, Stationers Place, Hemel Hempstead, HP3 9RL
Description: A presentation about Hertfordshire during WW1. Prepare to be surprised! There is also a practical activity with this one. Fish and chip supper included. Part of our 2025 programme of talks. We have invited a number of extremely knowledgeable historians to speak on their areas of expertise. If you thought Hemel Hempstead had no history, or you knew everything about the local paper industry, we guarantee you are wrong! Tonight's speaker is Michael Stanyon. Mike is one of our regular speakers and generally referred to as the oracle for all things paper history, having set up our archive more than 20 years ago. Mike is a great presenter and always engages his audience. Your ticket will cover the talk, a fish and chip supper, tea and coffee. We do not have a drinks licence for this site, so no alcohol will be available. All talks take place in The Tudor Room at Apsley Mill Cottage. The Tudor Room is the preserved boardroom of the former John Dickinson and Company and there is one flight of stairs to get there. The Cottage is the white building with the Basildon Bond clock, opposite Apsley Station. There is plenty of available parking in the shared Apsley Paper Trail/Paper Mill Pub car park. Please register your car with us before the start of the talk.
