Historical thinking in a digital world: how history builds digital and media literacy

Description: This session showcases an innovative pedagogical framework connecting historical source analysis with digital literacy to increase student digital resilience and address online misinformation and safety concerns. Partnering with PGCE beginning teachers, Dr Holmes will investigate and share schemes of learning that integrate these skills within existing curricula. The research demonstrates History’s essential contribution to developing critical evaluation skills transferable to digital contexts, simultaneously supporting PSHE, safeguarding and PREVENT strategies. This session showcases the initial phase of this project, showing beginning teachers’ innovative work, and shares practical approaches for embedding digital literacy within the history curriculum.
