This book definitely surprised me! As an avid Murder Most Unladylike reader, Robin Stevens gave me another great read to enjoy on a rainy day.

The Ministry of Unladylike Activity is a very compelling book - it kept me stuck in, wondering what ‘big thing’ was going to happen next. As I kept reading, the more I learnt about the characters and who I thought was up to all the crime at Elysium Hall (I was wrong!) and all the little thoughts I had of people were slowly cleared up at the end.

The story is set around World War Two, which I’ve had some previous knowledge of. However, we get to learn about people from other sides of the war and their perspective of what happened outside of Britain, which I found intriguing.

My favourite character was Eric - his connection with animals and his perspective of the war as a German boy stuck out to me, as I’ve never known much about. I also liked May a lot. We get to know her story as a younger sister of Hazel. She reminds me of my own sister, who is also very confident (they even have the same haircut!).

I would recommend this book to pupils who enjoy crime, plot twists and a different view of a historic war.

The only thing that I didn’t enjoy about this book was that we didn’t get to know more about Pamela Verey and Annabelle Olivia. I found them interesting and would’ve liked to know more about their backstory.

Overall, it was a fantastic book which I loved reading and enjoyed reviewing!
