Those teachers who can still manage a school trip to the British Museum are in for a treat. The new Michael Cohen Gallery (Room 61) is everything a museum exhibition room should be. Its focus is the famous wall paintings from the tomb chapel of Nebamun, from about 1325 BC .

Do remember you need to book a school visit a term in advance. Go to the British Museum website: www.britishmuseum.org/visiting/school_visits.aspx for information on this and resources provided by the Museum.

Gone are the exhibition cases that are crowded and have labels that give a museum reference number, where the object was found, who it was donated by and (if you are lucky) a brief description. There are fewer exhibits, they are carefully displayed and beautifully lit and the boards to the side or along the bottom contain just the right sort of information to stimulate your students.

To get to Room 61 turn immediately left, then head right through the Egyptian sculpture gallery to the West stairs. Take the stairs to the third level and the room is on your left...
