This is a momentous occasion in the history of designation in England and we hope you find the List and the online application form a useful resource.

The National Heritage List for England is an online database which brings together information on all nationally designated heritage assets in one place for the first time.

What's on the National Heritage List for England?

You can search for:

  • Listed Buildings
  • Scheduled Monuments
  • Protected Wreck Sites
  • Registered Parks and Gardens
  • Registered Battlefields

World Heritage Site records have also been added to the List for England, but are separately inscribed by UNESCO.

You can also find current Certificates of Immunity (COI) and Building Preservation Notices (BPN) on the List.  Further information on COIs and BPNs can be downloaded from the right hand side of this page. 

This is the first phase of development for The National Heritage List for England. Please do go online and use it; we are keen to have your feedback. 

When you search The National Heritage List for England you will find the relevant list entry which describes the asset and provides a copy of a map which indicates its location.

There are search tips and guidance available on the List to enable you to get the most out of your search.
