The Winner: Arianna Azari and 'The Dutch Hunger Winter'

Arianna Azari from Henrietta Barnett School won both her heat in London and was also chosen as the winner of the Great Debate Final 2012 for her presentation which looked at the Dutch Hunger Winter, her family history and the lessons of history.

The Dutch famine of 1944, known as the Hongerwinter ("Hunger winter") in Dutch, was a famine that took place in the German-occupied part of the Netherlands, especially in the densely populated western provinces above the great rivers, during the winter of 1944-1945, near the end of World War II.
