Caitlin argues that the greatest failure of the Age of Revolutions was the Irish Rebellion of 1798, not least because it is remembered as a rebellion as opposed to a revolution. She illustrates that despite the religious diversity of the united Irishmen, the extent of the bloodshed was so significant because its aims have never been truly realised as Ireland is, to this day, not united and free of British rule.
