The physical and political repercussions of the events and those that followed it had an immediate impact on other monarchies and empires as well as on the emerging governments around the globe. However, what were the real causes of the revolution – political or economic – or both? Was the revolution fully successful? Were the political ambitions of the revolutionaries fully realised in France then or later? How did the military and French Empire feel the effects of the changes? Is the revolution still relevant today?
