The Leeds Community History Project
The project
The Nuffield Foundation-funded Leeds Community History Project brought together schools and older community members in the creation of community archives. It focused on articulating, valuing and recording the older generation's memories and knowledge. Its overarching aim was to foster active citizenship through inter-generational appreciation and engagement. The project offered schools the opportunity to increase creativity, breadth and balance in the curriculum, and to satisfy several government curriculum priorities simultaneously: cross-curricular teaching, citizenship, PSHE, purposeful and appropriate use of ICT, and literacy enhancement...
