Bath Branch Centenary

Published: 30th March 2026

The Historical Association was founded in 1906, with individual branches established in the months and years that followed. Some of those original—or near‑original—branches are still active today, making them historic Historical Association branches in their own right. One such branch is the Bath Branch, founded in 1926 during the interwar years to meet a growing demand for educational fulfilment and intellectual stimulation.

To mark this milestone, the Branch has organised a centenary programme featuring a rich mix of leading historians, lectures and civic events. Running from April 2026 through to 2027, the celebrations fittingly begin where it all started: Bath’s Guildhall. On 16 April, the opening lecture will take place in the Guildhall, delivered by Royal Palaces and television historian Tracey Borman (HA Fellow). We warmly celebrate the Bath Branch’s centenary and look forward to it continuing to thrive as it enters its second century.
