Higher Education Committee remit

The HA's Higher Education Committee will:

  • raise awareness in the UK-wide HE sector of the work of and benefits offered by the HA
  • ensure that the HA continues to disseminate an up-to-date and appropriate understanding of the way History is taught, researched and interpreted in higher education to the teaching community in schools and college
  • ensure that colleagues in HE have an up-to-date and appropriate understanding of history as taught and examined in schools and colleges 
  • involve colleagues in HE with the HA’s work, including in strengthening Continuing Professional Development in schools
  • monitor and support the place of and work of universities and academics in Initial Teacher Training
  • help individuals and institutions in HE to achieve Impact and outreach through collaboration with schools and colleges
  • work through the HA branch structure to develop opportunities for HE academics to engage in outreach to diverse local communities, which it is hoped will also support HA branches in reaching out to these communities
  • work with the Editor and Editorial Board of the journal History, and to increase awareness among HE academics of opportunities for publishing in the HA’s journals History and The Historian
  • work with other HA committees to represent the interests of History in the public arena as appropriate
  • work with other bodies representing History, and maintain a close relationship with other History subject associations including History UK, the Institute of Historical Research and the Royal Historical Society.
