The East of England Regional Archive Council

The East of England Regional Archive Council was formed in 1999 and represents  users of archives as well as custodians of archives working within the East of England.  The East of England Region consists of the six geographical counties of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk. 

Members of the Council include representatives from The Historical Association, The British Association for Local History, The Federation of Family History Societies, The British Records Association as well as practising archivists from all over the Eastern Region from a variety of archive repositories and libraries. 

 

The objects of the Council are:

  • To promote the preservation of archives
  • To encourage and facilitate access to archives, particularly for purposes of research and learning
  • To provide advice for owners and custodians concerning the preservation and listing of archives
  • To represent the views and interests of archival bodies
  • To provide a forum for discussion and consultation with archival bodies and users of archives
  • To co-ordinate and support archive projects and funding applications for those projects.
