The post-1066 thematic study provides us with a really exciting opportunity to consider something different. While non-statutory guidance provides some suggestions to consider, the actual possibilities are endless and enable us to choose something highly relevant to our schools. In this article, Paul Bracey invites us to explore schooling over the past thousand years and provides a number of teaching activities for use in the classroom. 

Teaching about schools clearly resonates with pupils’ lives and provides a rich opportunity for them to compare their experiences with those of children in the past. Typically this may include a visit to a Victorian classroom, together with exploring aspects of education such as teaching, what was taught, attendance and attitudes to learning, using a wide range of sources such as school log-books, attendance records and school buildings...
