A Clash of Claws: 1066

Review by Mason, St Peter’s Catholic School Solihull
Overall, I have thoroughly enjoyed reading “A Clash of Claws 1066” since the book put a creative and unusual twist on the Norman Conquest of 1066 with developed character and vivid imagery. I was personally fond on how Hardrada was described; his description constructed the perfect image that you would expect a bulky polar bear to look like. Due to studying GCSE history, I had an extensive prior knowledge of the Norman Conquest, and I felt as if I knew what would happen next and yet, each turn of the page felt intense. The plot was very well aligned with the true events at the time, even down to the finest details such as the Viking berserker at Stanford Bridge. I would definitely recommend this to my friends and to anyone with a keen eye towards History. However, despite still being very intense and eventful, it felt as if prior knowledge of the topic had quite a large impact on what was going to happen and thus, this made the book at times, feel partially unexciting to read to an extent.

Review by Byron, Lagan College Belfast
My name is Byron. I live in Northern Ireland, and I go to lagan collage. I’m thirteen years old and love reading books and when my school were handing out books about historical fiction to read and then write a review about them your book was what caught my eye. Clash of Claws 1066 looked incredible and was a joy to read. The things about your book that I loved the most was that it had animals instead of people what a genius and interesting idea and I wonder why you chose animals over people. I personally am an animal lover and Harold the fox William the lynx heralds the polar bear just sounded so cool. And the way you wrote then into historical charters was amazing to. Another thing that I like was that your book was a historical fiction I love history especially the Tudor period. The person I like the most during that period was Mary queen of Scots, her life is so interesting you should do an animal historical fiction book based on her, but only if you want to. Reading Clash of Claws was a good experience it felt like stepping into another world! Anyway, thanks so much for taking your time to read my review and I hope you make even more incredible novels.
