It is difficult to remember the precarious position of history in primary schools before the National Curriculum of 2014 was introduced. Some enthusiastic teachers taught it; most did not. The same applied to Primary History – it was not widely read or circulated, and was read mostly by teacher-trainers and education professionals...
The National Curriculum changed all that. History was now compulsory. Whether you agreed with the content or not, history had a place in primary schools – the only problem was finding the time to fit it in!
