Introduction: Interactive Whole Class - Teaching, Textbreaker & EXIT

Demonstration and modelling relies upon pupils being able to read the text that is being modelled, including the most demanding document. Accordingly the Nuffield  Primary History Project developed a whole class interactive teaching strategy to support pupil reading of difficult and challenging texts. The strategy incorporated oracy, see p. 36; enactive learning [drama & role-play], p. 39; with pupils working in pairs, small groups and as a whole class and visual literacy, p. 40.

Textbreaker

To help our children read any text, treating texts as codes, we developed a code - breaking tool - Textbreaker, figure 1. Textbreaker uses the genre's structure to break down and make accessible its text at words, phrase...
