Trainee's approach to using sources in history lessons is always as the focus of exam-style questions

After what appeared to be a positive and successful first placement, Guy Bailey appears to be struggling somewhat in his second school placement and is losing confidence in the use of strategies that he thought he had mastered. In particular, he has found it difficult to make sense of the way in which teachers in his new department expect him to use sources, particularly with Key Stage 3 classes. 

In his previous school, Guy worked regularly with his mentor’s GCSE class and became familiar with a standard question format that required students to assess the usefulness of sources (usually two different sources considered together) in relation to their content and provenance...
