Muslim Rescuers of the Holocaust
CPD Unit
Please note: this unit was produced before the 2014 curriculum.
This CPD unit focuses on the experience of Muslim rescuers during the Holocaust and the Second World War. It was written by Andrew Wrenn, Cambridgeshire Humanities Advisor, and complements the Muslim Tommies lesson sequence which deals with the experience of Muslim soldiers fighting for Britain during the First World War.
The unit has been written so that it can be slotted into a Key Stage 3 History curriculum in such a way that Muslim pupils can see themselves represented in the mainstream History curriculum and that other pupils can also see the different ways that Muslims have interacted with national and international events. Muslim Rescuers as a unit also models how the principles of the HA's report on Teaching Emotive and Controversial History 3-19 can be put into effect (the content may prove useful in countering Holocaust Denial). The unit also underpins efforts to foster greater cohesion across communities and may be linked to study of the Holocaust in other disciplines such as Citizenship and Religious Education.
