Writing a History Policy

HA Primary Subject Leader Area

In this piece Bev explains why it’s important for history subject leaders to develop a whole school policy for history, key pieces of information you may want to include, and the need to review the policy on a periodic basis. It also includes two exemplars policies for you to review and discuss within your own school.   

Bev Forrest is a primary teacher trainer and national Quality Mark assessor for the HA. Throughout her career she has taught across the age range from reception to A-level history in a sixth form college. She is the Chair of the Historical Association Primary Committee and a member of Primary History Editorial Board. Bev has produced resources for a number of leading publishers runs the Facebook group Primary History Matters.
