Nominations for the Medlicott Medal 2026
HA Awards
Recognising extraordinary contributions to history
Nominations are open
Nominations are open for the 2026 Medlicott Medal, the HA’s prestigious award recognising exceptional service and outstanding contributions to history. 2026 will see our 40th awardee in the HA's 120th year. Since its beginning, the Medal has honoured some of the most inspiring historians, teachers, writers and broadcasters of our time from Mary Beard and Antonia Fraser to David Olusoga and Antony Beevor.
A highlight of the HA calendar
The Medlicott winner is notified in advance and invited to deliver an exclusive lecture at our annual event – now a must‑attend gathering for members and local, educational and academic historians. Named after distinguished HA President Professor W.N. Medlicott (1952–55), the award reflects the Association’s long tradition of championing excellence in historical work.
Who inspires you?
We’re inviting HA members to nominate someone whose work – whether through scholarship, teaching, writing, public engagement or broadcasting – has made a remarkable impact on the discipline. If a historian, educator or communicator has shaped your thinking or ignited your passion for the past, and had a demonstrable impact on others, we want to hear about them.
Email us with a brief explanation of why your nominee deserves this year’s Medal before 15 June 2026.
