I recently finished a most interesting commission with the educational publishers, Schofield and Sims. They asked me to help put together a comprehensive timeline of British History to cover as broad a chronological perspective as possible. They wanted this to be the complete Cavemen to Cybermen story all on one sheet of paper! As in all historical decisionmaking, the problem was never a matter of what to put in but what to leave out! In terms of people and events, I think we managed to include nearly all the ‘A Team' but this will inevitably be a matter of opinion. The question of  content was discussed in some depth at the time of the genesis of  the National Curriculum back in the late 80s...
