This book contains a selection of the key events of the 1960s. Each double-page spread has at least one image, detail of and background to the event, and a primary account from the time. Events featured include England's World Cup win; Martin Luther King's 'I have a dream' speech; the first man on the moon; British troops arriving in Northern Ireland; and many more.

The text provides a useful overview of and introduction to the decade for older Key Stage 2 pupils, although some of the language is quite difficult for 10 year olds. It is probably a book for the library for Key Stage 3 and weaker Key Stage 4 pupils, to act as an introduction to some of the topics. But why not use it as a basis for departmental inset? Ask your department members to come up with a list of events covering the 60s - they must include an event for each year, and see if they agree with this selection. Probably make for an enlightening discussion on the topic of significance!
